I should clarify that the tax exemption I listed does not exclusively apply to churches, though its primary use and purpose is by churches and church-affiliated organizations.

I agree with you my friend. I get asked by members of my church all the time about who I think is this and that relating to matters of candidates. I will have those conversations outside the pulpit... but from the pulpit I will only ever make comments (as you mentioned) about specific issues and what the Bible says about them.

Prior to this year I have probably made a comment about a statement from the President and then explained why it was wrong (a statement on homosexuality, abortion, etc)... but I let the facts stand for themselves, I don't follow it up with "that's why we should vote for this guy over this one".

Certainly agree with you that there's no candidate that I believe to be a shining pillar of godliness for sure... I tend to look at the views of the party + the individual candidate and vote for the one in whom I agree with most...

FYI, Churches are not being specially targeted by these tax laws.

At least not in a way that harms them. They are, however, exempted from many of the tax laws that apply to other nonprofits, such as the fact that churches specifically are exempt from the requirement of filing a 990 disclosure statement, which requires other nonprofits to provide a detailed accounting of how their money was spent.
